Project Type Residential
Roseville presented a challenge beyond the typical reconfiguration and retrofit hit list; the house was built to face a road that was never constructed. This resulted in a ‘back-to-front’ house, where the front door and entry hallway faced what ultimately became the back garden. The new owners fell for the garden, location and space the house offered but it needed an extensive rethink to meet their needs.
Through the design process the layout issues were resolved and the new owners were provided with open plan living with views to the sky and their extensive garden - the perk left behind by the road that never was. The design solution brought an enhanced openness to the now modern family home by providing internal views between the ground and first floor through a raked double height volume over the kitchen/dining space which vastly increased the sense of space. Custom designed joinery, clean concise interiors, expressed ceiling joists, a patio, utility and dedicated pantry were seamlessly blended into the reconfiguration.
